Friday Fave Five 9.16

It's finally Friday! Woo Hoo!!

1. Pin:

I have big plans to make Sassy's birthday cupcakes myself, well with a little help from Betty of course. I might even get really crazy and make ho-made icing but this will require the purchase of a mixer because apparently, you need a mixer to make frosting and I don't have one. I've always wanted a fancy Kitchen Aid mixer, but only because I think it would look really cool sitting on my counter - not because I mix stuff on the regular.

2 The weather today....it's awesome! I love fall weather! Right now it feels like bonfires, hoodies, oyster roasts, and football games outside!

3 Sassy Moment: She finally gave in and ate a smidgen of big girl food this week. I made her a pancake last weekend which she snatched up quick to eat but promptly spit out making an icky face, but at daycare on Monday she ate half of one of their pancakes. She took a couple of bites of mashed potatoes on Wednesday but once she saw I was excited about the whole thing she refused to eat anymore. I ate a crap-load of mashed potatoes for dinner that night, nothing else just mashed potatoes. Last night she got really wild & crazy and ate some steak fries - quite a few bites of them too!

4 Baby Steps! This week Sassy has made major strides (pun intended) in the walking department. For a few weeks or so she'd been walking between Momma & Daddy if she acted as training wheels arms but this week she's been walking on her own for at least 5 or 6 steps. While this is super exciting, it also made me cry like a big ol' nerd - my baby isn't a little baby anymore and that makes me sad.

5 Money Saving Moment - Wednesday morning there was a 7 car accident on the interstate that had traffic backed up for hours. Instead of sitting parked in traffic wasting gas, I decided to run a few errands in the opposite direction while I waited for traffic to thin out. Turns out there aren't a lot of places open at 8am so I ended up at Target. Where I scored these birthday goodies for Sassy:

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

It's Friday again, woo hoo! Here are a few of my favorite things this week:

The Big One
On Tuesday we felt a slight tremor from the NE earthquake down here in Charleston. When I say "tremor" I mean that if you were sitting totally still you could feel a slight bit of movement that I would equate to that feeling you get when you first start getting tipsy. According to one person in my office however, the building was "swaying" and it was "intense". And of course, we (and by we, I mean this one person) had to call every.single.person we knew and say "did y'all feel that" with every phone call the intensity intensified, it was hilarious. So thank you, earthquake for providing my friends and I with several hours of entertainment!

The Big One #2 (and no, I'm not talking about poop)
I'm guessing that y'all have heard about Irene. On Monday the track was showing it making a direct hit in Charleston. Funny thing about east coast storms is that early tracks always seem to have them slamming into Charleston and yet they (almost) never do. But this prompts half the city to reflect on the last big one, Hugo, and go batspit crazy and buy all the water in the city. No really, as of Tuesday there were places that were totally out of water and by then the track had changed gifting the Outer Banks with Irene. As I write this Miss Irene is sitting about 200 miles off the coast of Charleston. Today we're expected to see a few outer rain bands accompanied by some wind. Charleston County has shut down their offices. Schools are closed or are closing early. And the weather, well so far it's no different than any other rainy day...except that there's really not been any rain.
I guess I should say that by no means am I saying that hurricanes are "no big deal" because they are. If you are in the path of Irene, I sincerely hope you and yours come through the storm safe & sound. Below is a just one picture of the damage caused by "The Big One".

Today, 22 years later, there are still boats scattered across the barrier islands of Charleston that were washed ashore by Hugo. Most notably of those is this one as you approach Folly Beach.

No one ever claimed the boat – so a year or so after Hugo, someone had the smart idea of painting a message on it. And ever since, layer upon layer of paint has been applied. Many very artistic! For birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, "I love you’s", "marry me" and just about every other message you can imagine. The Folly Beach Boat has become a landmark on Folly and will probably be here for years to come.

Sassy just loves having her picture taken!

I LOVED the Go-Go's when I was a kid and I heard this on the way to work this morning.

Friday Fave Five

Here's my five favorite random things from this week:

Pin: Styrofoam Wall Art from How Joyful

Crazy Coupon Lady Moment: Thanks to a crap-load of coupons and BOGO sales, I got 2 weeks worth of groceries and a big box of diapers for $56 y'all! This was the first time those coupons really seemed to make a huge difference, I was on a money saving high after this!

Sassy Moment: She said "no" and used it in proper (although a little hurtful to Momma) context. Mr. Pickles was out working all day on Sunday and Sassy had apparently had her fill of hanging out with me. As she was pushing away from me she says "Noooo Momma, Daaaaadeeeee" most Momma's wouldn't be thrilled with that little sentiment but I was pretty excited that she kinda-sorta put a sentence together.

Bad For Me Lunch: I had this yummy powdered chocolate filled donut for lunch today. It was delicious and not at all nutritious.

Blog Post: Nucking Futs Mama had be dying laughing with this one! Ok, this isn't actually from this week but I was a bad blogger good mother staying home with a sick Sassy last week and had an overwhelming 785 unread posts in my Google Reader when I finally was able to get back to work - I'm still trying to catch up on all those posts!

Friday Fave Five

Here's a few of my favorite things from this week:

1. Y'all are the bestest! - thanks to all of you who left sweet comments about Sassy being sick (and me being a total wreck) this week! She is feeling much better and has 100% of her Sass back : )
 hanging out in our pj's on Monday{crappy phone pic}

2. Pin: Tater Tot Pie, Oh.My.Lanta! Tots, cheese, salsa-ishy filling...what's not to love? Must try to make this soon!

3. Networking Tool: voiceBoks. Jessica over at Mom 4 Real told me about this site and it's pretty awesome. I haven't really had a chance to completely dive in but so far I'm loving it. I've discovered a lot of fun new blogs and it's a great way to get your blog "out there" as well.

4. Sassy Moment: There are actually two: First was on Monday afternoon, I could tell she was starting to feel better when I told her "no" and she looked at me stuck her hands over her ears and made that frowny face that's so darn cute. It was totally intentional and as if she was saying "You can't tell me no I'm sick". So much attitude and she's only 10 months old! The second: she now says bye-bye when she waves. Ok, it's more like buh-buh and she also says it when she wants a bottle or is taking a bath, but the combination of buh-buh and waving is saying bye-bye in my book!

5. I took part in my first #commenthour yesterday. It was a Pinteresting  twitter event. This made me realize that twitter gives me sweaty palms and I forget my name. I read somewhere that you should think of twitter like a cocktail party - well twitter makes me feel like I crashed a party where I don't know any one so I end up sitting in the corner talking to myself. Even though it turned me into Anxiety Girl, it was a lot of fun and I love that I was able to "meet" some fellow pinners.
